Wear what makes you feel you: dressing with intention in 2026

In 2026, fashion is less about trends and more about intention. A reflection on dressing for yourself, self-expression, and choosing clothes that truly feel like you.

As we move through 2026, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we get dressed, and why.

Not in a “what’s trending this season?” way, but in a deeper, more personal sense. The kind that asks: Does this feel like me? Does this reflect who I am right now, not who I’m told I should be?

For me, fashion has always been about self-expression. It’s never been about following rules or ticking boxes. It’s about choosing pieces that make you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself. And this year, more than ever, I’m leaning into dressing with intention.

Fashion IS a form of self-expression

What we wear is one of the most immediate ways we express ourselves to the world. Before we speak, before we move, before we explain, our clothes are already telling a story. But somewhere along the way, fashion became noisy. Trends move faster than ever, algorithms tell us what to like, and it’s easy to lose touch with our own instincts. Dressing intentionally is about quieting that noise and reconnecting with what you actually love. It’s choosing pieces because they resonate with you, not because they’re “in”. It’s wearing something because it makes you feel grounded, powerful, playful, or at ease.

So, this year, I’ve decided to spread this message: Let’s dress with more intention in the year ahead of us. For me, dressing with intention means slowing down. Asking better questions before buying. Being honest about what I’ll actually wear, and what will just sit in the wardrobe waiting for a “right moment” that never comes.

It means building a wardrobe made up of pieces that:

  • Feel good on your body
  • Reflect your personality
  • Work with your lifestyle
  • And last beyond one season

Intentional dressing isn’t restrictive at all; it’s actually freeing. When you know what you like and what works for you, getting dressed becomes easier, not harder.

Why vintage fits into this mindset so naturally

This is where vintage plays such a big role in my own wardrobe, and in Ella Pop Shop. Vintage clothing already exists. It’s lived a life. It wasn’t designed to be disposable, and it doesn’t try to fit into one narrow aesthetic. Each piece has character, individuality, and a story,  just like the people who wear them.

When you choose vintage, you’re far less likely to end up wearing the exact same thing as everyone else. You’re choosing something that feels personal, something that stands apart, something that can be styled in a way that’s uniquely yours. That’s fashion as self-expression at its best: Wearing what makes you feel you.

Over the years, I’ve noticed that the pieces people fall most in love with at markets aren’t always the “safe” ones. They’re the ones that spark something. The bold coat. The unexpected colour. The silhouette they didn’t think they could pull off, until they tried it on. Those moments are my favourite. Confidence doesn’t come from dressing like everyone else. It comes from wearing something that feels aligned with who you are.

Dressing with intention means trusting yourself. Letting go of rules like “I can’t wear that” or “That’s not for me”. It’s about curiosity, play, and permission.

Building a wardrobe that grows with you

You don’t need to overhaul your entire wardrobe to dress more intentionally. Start small. Pay attention to the pieces you reach for again and again. Notice what makes you feel most like yourself. Ask whether new additions truly add something, or just add noise. In 2026, I’m choosing pieces that I know I’ll wear in different ways, across different moments of my life. Clothes that evolve with me, rather than demand constant replacement.

That’s what I aim to source for Ella Pop Sho,p too: timeless, expressive pieces that feel good now and will still feel right years from now. Fashion should be fun. It should feel personal. It should feel like a reflection of you, not a performance for anyone else.

So this year, wear what makes you feel confident. Wear what feels comfortable. Wear what makes you feel at home in your body. Wear what makes you feel you. That’s always in style.

With love,

Ella x
